Greek Minister Offers Resignation after Insulting Comments

Deputy Education Minister Kostas Zouraris submitted his resignation on Sunday after he made insulting comments on a radio program against two Greek prominent football clubs.
Zouraris, a controversial figure and Member of Parliament with the Independent Greeks party, used vulgar expressions when referring to Piraeus’ Olympiakos, while also insulting Aris, one of the biggest clubs in Thessaloniki.
“10,000 [Olympiakos fans] sit on the lowest part of my …” and “Who gives a f*** about Aris,” were some of the milder expressions he used in the radio interview.
The statements triggered reactions not only among the fans but also among political parties, with the strongest reaction coming from his own.
According to government sources, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will decide whether he will accept the resignation on Monday after the debate on the omnibus bill in Parliament.
