Sporadic clashes between anarchists and the police broke out in central Athens on the occasion of the nine year-anniversary since the killing of high-school student Alexis Grigoropoulos by a policeman.
A few hundred students, among them dozens of black-clad youths, marched through central Athens waving red and black flags.
Some of the protesters set garbage containers on fire and hurled stones at police outside parliament during the march. Police fired teargas to disperse them and formed protective cordons outside parliament and hotels in central Athens.
A new demonstration is planned for later this afternoon in the centre of Athens. Demonstrations are also planned in Thessaloniki and other major Greek cities.
