Chilean Metro Station Resembles Museum of Greek Civilization

The ”Grecia” metro station in Santiago, Chile could easily be called a small museum of Greek civilization where passengers can admire the exhibits.

The underground “exhibition” has been open since 2014 and is full of reproductions of ancient Greek art and artifacts. The station is the result of close cooperation between the Greek Ministry of Culture and the government of Chile.

Approximately 22,000 passengers per day can “visit” the museum and be exposed to reproductions of some of the world’s greatest treasures.

The walls of the station dedicated to Greece are covered with statues, busts, vases, masks and carved reliefs of ancient Greece. Passengers can even admire a replica of the west frieze of the Parthenon, the originals of which are now in the new Acropolis Museum and the British Museum in London.
