New War Sirens Remind of 1974 Turkish Invasion of Cyprus

cyprus_turkish-invasionI woke up this morning hearing that dreaded sound of sirens. It was the sound of death all Cypriots will never easily forget, which signified the 1974 Turkish military invasion and occupation of the northern part of the island forty-two years ago.
The failed coup against dictator Sultan Erdogan, has unleashed the real fanatical Turkish mentality camouflaged under a pretend “Turkish Democracy.” It fooled the world and now it has to deal with this new monster of our times. This tyrant supported by millions of Turks wants to reintroduce the death penalty so he can murder thousands of his people “legally” and justify his blood-frenzy: anyone who disagrees with him is considered an enemy.
Today, Cyprus is more vulnerable than any other time before. Nobody really knows what this man will do next. When purging starts to spread across the occupied area, there are no guarantees what will happen; he may simply decide to declare his trophy a new Turkish province!
What would the Cyprus government do then? Does it have Plan B to deal with such a scenario or, would it simply turn to the UN for the millionth time for moral support? Would the EU or the UK stop Ankara’s declaration from happening? Will the Turkish Cypriots choose to support the Greek Cypriot side against the wishes of their master Erdogan? Very doubtful indeed.
The Cyprus government has to stop fooling citizens about a solution and put an end to the BBF negotiations — citizens will never approve such an ill-advised agreement to partition the island; secondly, work with the Turkish Cypriots towards one nation, one citizenship, one-man-one-vote based on rule of law and not two separate states; most importantly, offer Russia a massive naval base on the island to stop Erdogan on his tracks before he makes his next move against Cyprus.
This Islamist Sultan without honor cannot be trusted – a man who is willing to kill hundreds of his own people and imprison thousands more to consolidate his power – he’s not stable. If the government thinks that it can deal with such a brutal dictator it is greatly mistaken. Stop this before it’s not too late.
