Greeks Called to Sign Petition on a Referendum for Grexit

GREXIT
A new petition on Greece has been launched on Avaaz.org, the global civic organization that promotes activism. The user, Nikolaos, is gathering signatures for the activation of article 44 of the Greek Constitution for a referendum on whether Greece should continue to remain in the European Union and the Eurozone.
No sooner was the petition launched on June 25 that thousands of signatures were gathered. The goal is to reach 500,000. The campaign is calling for all adult Greeks who have the right to vote in federal elections and whose names are registered on the electoral role. “If there is an e-mail already listed on TAXIS (online tax service) please use that,” requests the petition’s organizer.
The last referendum held in Greece took place on July 5, 2015, and was announced by Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on June 27, 2015. The question asked Greeks on whether they wanted to accept the bailout conditions in the country’s government-debt crisis that had been proposed jointly by the European Commission (EC), the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Central Bank (ECB) on June 25. These terms were immediately pulled off the table by Greece’s creditors but the referendum took place anyway. The majority (more than 61% of voters) rejected the terms with “No” winning.
