GREEKS

The traveling display, ‘THE GREEKS: Agamemnon to Alexander the Great’, has met with great success in the United States. On the last leg of its tour at the National Geographic Museum in Washington D.C. is the only east coast museum hosting the display.

Visitors are treated to more than 500 priceless treasures, many on display outside of Greece for the first time. The exhibition is a comprehensive survey of Greek culture featuring collections from 22 national museums in Greece to tell the unique story of one of the world’s most advanced ancient civilizations. Apart from encountering the early origins of Greek writing and art from Cycladic and Minoan cultures of the Aegean Sea, visitors will also learn more about Mycenaean rulers and priestesses, Spartan warriors, heroes, athletes, philosophers of Classical Greece as well as Alexander the Great.

The exhibition explores pivotal moments that led to the birth of Western democracy, modern art, science, medicine, theater and sports. A number of events will also be held in the framework of the display, including talks, tastings, tours and toga parties.

The display runs from June 1 until October 10.
