Dijsellbloem: Political Agreement Is the Aim of May 9 Eurogroup

DijsselbloemAchieving a “political agreement” on the Greek debt relief issue is the goal of the May 9 Eurogroup, said the Eurozone Finance Ministers chief Jeroen Dijsellbloem.
This is emphasized on the draft agenda released today by the Eurogroup President.
“The Eurogroup will discuss the situation on the first assessment of the macroeconomic adjustment program of Greece.
Finance Ministers will be informed by the institutions and the Greek authorities for the progress made in the discussions on the package of reforms required for the completion of the first evaluation, including the package of preventive measures to ensure the achievement of the primary surplus target of the European Stability Mechanism program.
The Eurogroup will also discuss potential debt relief measures to ensure that the net financing needs of Greece will remain at a sustainable level, with a view to achieving a political agreement.
In line with the conclusions of the April 22 Eurogroup in Amsterdam, institutions and the Greek authorities are continuing discussions in the package of reforms required for the completion of the first evaluation, including a preventive package in order to complete them as soon as possible.”
