Technical Teams from the Institutions Return to Athens on Monday

Technical Teams_AthensThe Greek authorities have made significant “improvements” to reform proposals in order to accommodate the wishes of the country’s lenders. Technical teams from the “institutions” will return to Athens on Monday, according to sources from the Greek Ministry of Finance.
The thorny issues in the negotiation talks revolve around pension reform and the type of measures needed to close the fiscal gap for 2015.
The resumption of the negotiation talks between Greece and the representatives of the country’s creditors is expected to take place in approximately two weeks.
In the meantime, the IMF has yet to confirm its participation in the new Greek bailout, but EU authorities, including Mario Draghi, President of the European Central Bank, consider the Fund’s role highly critical and desirable as it has technical expertise in implementing structural adjustment programs for highly indebted countries.
As such, they hope that the Fund will take part not only in the review of the Greek bailout program but also with financial support.
