Greeks Third Last in EU for Credit Card Use

credit cardAccording to European Central Bank figures released on Tuesday, Greek citizens are among those least likely to use credit cards in the European UnionGreece came third last in terms of the frequency of use and the total value of payments made by credit card. 
ECB figures showed that in 2012, Greeks used credit cards an average of just 7 times while the EU average was 79. Greek citizens spent an average of about 500 euros while the average for the European citizens was 4,055 euros.

Credit cards are now the most popular method of payment in the EU. In 2012 about 40 billion card payments occurred, around 26 billion credit transfers and 23 billion direct debits in Europe.
