Greek National Football Team to Play Two Friendly Matches in the U.S.

The Greek expats in the U.S. will have the opportunity to see the Greek National Football Team, when Fernando Santos’ side will play two friendly matches — which are most likely to be in New York — right before the Mundial in Brazil gets underway.

These friendly matches have been arranged in order for the Greek national team to be fully prepared for the great challenge of the highly anticipated team’s participation in the World Cup that will take place this summer. The Greek national team will travel to New York early in June and will face Nigeria and either Ecuador or Mexico. The opponents have been chosen accordingly, to the teams that Santos’ side will face in their group in the forthcoming World Cup. As the Mundial starts on June 12, these friendly matches will be the final stage of Greece’s preparation.

Before the Greek internationals travel to the U.S. to play for an audience of Greek expats, the 2004 European Champions will play another two friendly matches. The first will be against South Korea and will take place for March 5, in Karaiskakis Stadium. The other one has been scheduled on May 31, when Greece will face the strong side of Portugal. This match will surely be a tough test for Greece, probably the toughest before the Mundial.
