36AAA91AD8F78E058C90915995BA5C2CMoutzouris, the historic train of Pelion, Thessaly, is ready for one more night trip. This special train will roll on the rails on the night of Aug. 19 on the occasion of the celebration of the 110 years of the train line Lechonia-Milies (1903-2013.) It will carry 120 passengers.
TrainOSE (a railway company in Greece which currently operates all passenger and freight trains on OSE lines) gave the necessary permission for this night trip which will begin at 6 in the afternoon from Lechonia. Moutzouris will reach its destination in Milies to reach a concert being held by the Cultural Association of Milies Grigorios Konstantas.
After the end of the concert, around midnight, the passengers will get back in the train to go to return the starting point, while enjoying the trip in the early morning hours.
“The night trip on Moutzouris is unique. Our aim is to celebrate the one hundred and ten years anniversary as well as to promote the train, In this framework, we lowered the price for the lucky passengers in half and so with only five euros they will be able to enjoy both the trip and the concert at Milies, ” the President of the Society for Social Intervention and Culture (EKPOL) of Magnesia Constantinos Chalevas told the Athens News Agency.
The train of Pelion deeply marked the history of the region. Until 1971 the train used to climb the mountain, carrying people and goods and contributed to the development of the region. It was constructed by the Italian engineer Evaristo de Chirico, who using local technicians designed and constructed one of the most beautiful train lines.
After its repeal in 1971 efforts were made for its restoration as a touristic railroad in an environment of exceptional natural beauty. After major works for the reconstruction of the infrastructure took place, the train went back into operation in 1996.
