Early in the morning of July 30, the port police detected a vessel of about seven meters moving between Chios and Oinousses. A port police patrol boat rushed to the spot and immobilized it.
According to the police announcement, two anti-tank mortar weapons, four grenades, two pistols, 200 bullets, as well as explosive devices were found during the police control. Two Greeks and two foreigners were arrested and their boat was brought to the island’s port.
During the interrogation of the two foreigners, it was found they are Kurds living in Turkey. As they said, they asked the two Greeks to transport them to Turkey and they accepted. As the Greek site newsit reported, all this occurred some days after the deluge of Turkish publications referring that Greece has given shelter to terrorists who intend to attack Turkey and the USA.
The newspaper Zaman claimed that members of the Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP/C), which is considered to be a terrorist organization, are trained at the immigrant reception center in Lavrio, with the tolerance of the Greek authorities.
A big operation by the police counter-terrorism unit is underway, with raids in homes in Athens, Thessaloniki and Korinthos.
The case is considered to be particularly important by the competent authorities, who will proceed to special announcements in the following hours.
