Germany Parliament: No Objection To Current Greece Aid Payment

Germany ParliamentThe budget committee of Germany΄s lower house of parliament, the Bundestag, did not block the payment of the next sub-tranche of E2.5 billion aid to Greece Monday under the EU-IMF rescue programme, Norbert Barthle, the budget speaker of Chancellor Angela Merkel΄s CDU/CSU block, said in a statement.
Barthle praised the “remarkable progress” that Greece has made in its fiscal consolidation and structural reform program and urged the country to continue on that path.
The deadline for the lawmakers to object to the aid payment expired at 10:00 GMT today. A source close to the committee told MNI already earlier today that the lawmakers would not block the aid payment.
In a letter sent to the budget committee Friday, German Deputy Finance Minister Steffen Kampeter said the Troika of the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund had confirmed that Greece has now implemented all the prior actions demanded by its international creditors.
Thus, “the federal government backs the payment of the next loan tranche,” Kampeter wrote in the letter seen by MNI.
