AHEPA Day Celebration Hosted In Athens

order_of_ahepaThe life and times of Spyros Merkouris, who was Mayor of Athens in 1930, were featured at the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA) celebration that visited the Greek capital for a third time, and drew 1,20o delegates.
The historical documents of the meeting between Merkouris and the delegation of the Greek immigrants were presented by the Chairman of AHEPA Athens Chapter, George Kostas, in a ceremony hosted at Athens City Hall.
AHEPA plays an important role in the community and AHEPA Day is a recognized event in the Greek Orthodox Churches across the United States and Canada.
The event was opened by President of the Permanent Parliamentary Committee for Greeks Abroad, New Democracy MP Adonis Georgiadis who said that, “AHEPA has been the best ambassador of Hellenism in the length and breadth of the world”.
Kostas was honored along with the member of the organization, Stelios Adamopoulos (honorary chairman of Athens Chapter) as well as the President of the Hellenic Parliament,  Evangelos Meimarakis, whose award was accepted on his behalf by Georgiadis.
