Evagelinou Wins MP Seat In Perth

Eleni-EvangelEleni Evangel (Helen Parisi-Evagelinou) managed to win the seat of Perth from the Labor party representing the Liberal party in the Parliament of Western Australia, after state elections on March 9. Evagelinou, who has also an academic and educational background, got 48.8 percent of the vote, to 36.8 for Labor candidate John Hyde, who was the incumbent.

The Greek politician is a TV personality in Australia, and also a producer. For the last 15 years she has presented the Lifestyle program on Channel 9 of Western Australia, while in 2009 she was praised for her documentary on noted Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis, entitled Miki Theodorakis: The Man, The Genius.

Evangelinou has also been a Perth City Councillor since 2005.  “Perth is evolving into a dynamic 21st Century City. Our Liberal government’s investment in significant infrastructure, education, culture and the arts is an investment in our children’s future,” she said.

Four other Greek-Australian candidates (Jim Bivoltsis, Panagiotis Katsabanis, George Levisianos and Michael George) failed in their bids to win a seat in Parliament.
