One Pupil For Gavdos Elementary

IoannaSix-year-old Joanna is the only pupil at the elementary school in Gavdos, an island south of Crete with a population of 152. She plays alone during breaks and has no classmates to interact with in class.
However, according to the newspaper Eleftheros Tipos, every Monday little Joanna has the opportunity to feel like most of her peers, to be in a class with many students, discuss and work with them via a video conference with other schools.
So, once a week,  the little pupil of the borderland island connects via Skype with the first grade of primary school in Nicosia and follows along with other students her age in an Environmental Studies course.
Joanna’s story has touched many teachers and students. In Chania, Crete the children of a school decided to send drawings to Joanna, asking her to send them hers.
