Greek Crisis Talks in Frankfurt Council

The Greek debt crisis, its causes and consequences, as well as the impact on Greek-German relations was the subject of the council held last week in Frankfurt by the city’s Association of Greek Scientists.
Among other spokesmen was Lutz Raettig, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Morgan Stanley Bank AG, Frankfurt, who described Greece as “the unlucky of the crisis”, foreseeing however that despite the many difficulties it may be facing at present, it is likely to remain in the Eurozone.
The Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry General Director Martin Knapp, spoke of the “myths and truths”, attempting to refute the stereotypes that toughen the relations between the two countries, while  Alexander Kritikos, Research Director for Entrepreneurship Research at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin), stressed the importance of targeted investments in areas such as academic research, in order to enhance the development process.

Many journalists, such as Michael Martens (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), Robert von Heusinger (Frankfurter Rundschau), Marika De Feo (Corriere della Sera), Stavros Lygeros, Giannis Papadogiannis (Kathimerini), attended the open discussions held during the Council.
Two Greek books on the economic crisis were also presented: From cleptocracy to default, by renowned columnist Stavros Lygeros, and Homo Economicus – The Myth of the Rational Man and the Chaotic Reality, by economy editor Giannis Papadogiannis.
In the first book, Lygeros analyzes how the debt crisis signals the collapse of a virtual model of development with characteristics such as cleptocracy, irrationalism, arbitrariness and impunity.

Papadogiannis on the other hand, wonders how much Homo Economicus is at risk by having learned to act logically. He also refers to the way reality seems to finally belie the economic science ambition willing to lead to financial development through scientifically selected routes.
