European Court of Human Rights Condemns Greece for Mistreatment of Immigrant

The European Court of Human Rights condemned Greece for mistreatment of an Albanian legal immigrant, Arben Lisha. Mr. Lisha had appealed against Greek authorities for mistreatment after he was deported to Albania. He used to reside in Skala Lakonias, Peloponnese, from 2003 until 2010. Every year he was applying for renewal of his working permitĀ  from 2003 until 27th of February 2010. He only applied for a renewal of his permit on the 20th of April 2010 because he was hospitalized.
Meanwhile, he was arrested by the police and was held in custody because his permit had expired, and soon he was deported to Albania. The court condemned Greece not for the deportation but for the mistreatment and the harsh conditions of the man while being under custody. The penalty for Greece is 12,000 Euros to be given to Mr Lisha and to pay the whole expenses of the procedure estimated at 1,500 Euros.
