Greek President Karolos Papoulias welcomed Plevneliev on July 4th and discussed about a possible energy interconnection between Greece and Bulgaria. More specifically, the two Presidents talked about a pipeline, the construction of which would provide both countries with natural gas.

“Greece believes that it is extremely important to cooperate with Bulgaria on large-scale gas projects,” stated the Greek President.

According to Bulgarian novinite.com, this project would benefit both countries. Bulgaria and Greece could become independent from Ukraine, their main current natural gas supplier.

Both Presidents described their countries’ relation as “friendly” and stressed the fact that Bulgaria, as member of the EU, has many chances to be quickly developed. “The spirit of solidarity and understanding that underlies the relations between our two nations, especially in a time of crisis, is an example of cooperation between friendly and neighboring countries,” added Mr Papoulias.
