Deakin University Launches Scholarship in Memory of Director Anna Kannava

Deakin University has established a scholarship in memory of the late Cypriot director and screenwriter Anna Kannava, who passed away last year after losing the battle against cancer.

The Cypriot director was widely known in Australia for her work, which included plays, short films and documentaries, as well as two novels. She was born in Cyprus, but has been living in Melbourne since 1974.

The value of the scholarship is estimated at $1,000 per year, and there will be one recipient after the assessment of all applications and supporting documentation.

To be eligible for the scholarship, one must be:
1. An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or holder of an Australian humanitarian visa
2. Female
3. Not born in Australia
4. Enrolling in, or currently enrolled in: Bachelor of Film and Digital Media, Bachelor of Creative Arts (Drama), Bachelor of Creative Arts (Dance), Bachelor of Creative Arts (Visual Arts)
5. Able to demonstrate a social or economic disadvantage.

Applicants can apply directly to Deakin University via the Deakin Applicant Portal.

You will be required to supply the following documentation once your on-line application has been submitted.
•    a copy of your academic progression to date/or Year 12 results
•    Two personal references (written)
•    Documentation in support of your disadvantage.  Examples of possible documents you could provide are: Centrelink statement, medical certificates, counsellor letters, police reports, statement of support written by someone not related to you that can confirm the information you provided in your statement.

Applications for 2012 are already open and close on March 1, 2012.
