Greece Will Follow EU’s Decision on Iran Oil Embargo

Greece΄s government would not stand in the way of a European Union embargo on Iranian crude exports, a government official said Wednesday.
Greece had been the only country openly opposed to the oil embargo proposal, which France put forward last month. However, diplomats say a number of other countries are cautious about any quick move to ban Iranian oil imports, fearing the measure could increase oil prices and lack bite.
The oil embargo was proposed as part of fresh EU sanctions on Iran aimed at “severely affecting” Iran΄s financial, energy and transport sectors.
The EU has ratcheted up sanctions against Iran over its nuclear program in recent months, especially after the nuclear watchdog the International Atomic Energy Agency said Tehran still seemed to be working on developing a nuclear weapon.
