Two Greek Students Create Facebook Application for the Blind

Despite economic turmoil in Greece, innovative ideas still exist. Greeks Alexis Tzanetopoulos and Philippos Protogeridis, finalists at the 2011 Microsoft Imagine Cup Festival have come up with the idea for the creation of a facebook application for blind people.
The two Greeks became friends while they were studying at the university in Athens, where Alexis had the inspiration of creating an innovative application so that blind people to browse on social networks.
The new project that is called ‘Eclipsis’ provides an application that can help people, especially blind people in using their systems easily. All the common tasks can be performed using Speech Recognition.
Alexis stated that the Facebook application allows the user to not have to ‘sign in’ on Facebook but to visit our site, to register and then to start using the application.
Both Alexis and Philippos emphasize that they are intending to create similar applications for wikipedia, youtube, and all Internet sites that are of wide acceptance by the public.
Sponsorships are needed so that this new application can enter markets. They have already had contacts with a French investment forum but they are still waiting for the response.
Philippos underlines that big companies do not show interest in promoting and purchasing such programs, since they are not interested in such small groups.
Alexis and Philippos are preparing an updated version of their project to compete in the next Imagine Cup 2012. The new version is intended to resolve many computer related problems and to add something different in computer technology.
