Alphington Grammar School Students Show Impressive Exam Results

Alphington Grammar School of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria excelled among all Greek-Australian colleges of the county in this year’s entrance exams for the Universities of Victoria.

Alphington Grammar School began its upturn in 2000 and has been among the top colleges ever since.  Although this year’s results have been lower than last year’s, its students have managed to consistently achieve high grades.

In comparison to the average results from 2000 to 2009, this year their students represented the top 30% of the county’s candidates.

The average grade of the Alphington Grammar School students was 66.7%, while the average grade throughout Victoria is estimated at 50%.  53% of Alphington students who took part in the exams ranked in the top 30% of Victorian students.

The school’s captain Emily Gibney got the best average grade of 93.35 points, with Yang Andrew Song following with 92.50 points.

The highest grade in the Greek language (44 points out of 50) was achieved by Ioanna Yiannakourou-Lianidou, with Pantelis Vasiliadis following with 40 points.

The number of candidates for the preliminary exams of 2012 increased by 50%, while 11% of the total number got over 40 points in their personally selected courses, which is reflective of their standard success in the following exams.
