Somali Pirates Free Greek Cargo Ship

Somali pirates have released a Greek-owned bulk carrier that they seized off the Horn of Africa, after receiving a multi-million dollar ransom.
The pirates said on Saturday that they had released the Panamanian-flagged MV Dover and its 23 crew members, the Press TV correspondent in Mogadishu reported.

The vessel had been hijacked in late February about 260 nautical miles north east of Salalah in Oman.
Pirates said they received a $4 million ransom for the ship’s release.
“We have received $4 million…. The ship is free, and is sailing away from Harardhere town in the Mudug province of central Somalia,” said a pirate contact, who identifies himself as Noureddin, in a phone call.

Attacks by heavily armed Somali pirates in speedboats have prompted some of the world’s largest shipping firms to abandon the Suez Canal and reroute cargo vessels around southern Africa, resulting in higher shipping costs.
