The President of the Cypriot Democracy announced during a television address to the nation that all events and conditions which led to the deadly explosion will be investigated. Every accountable person responsible for the incident will face justice. He noted that composure of the nation is necessary to move ahead. The Committee in charge of the investigation will be headed by Polis Polyviou.
The President sent condolences to family members and relatives of the victims. He stressed that it is the demand of all to investigate the circumstances and the causes of the tragedy. He asked from the people to trust the institutions.
Furthermore he noted that he is in favor of peaceful demonstrations, which is and should be a right of citizens. He denounced violations and extremism being made by minorities.
He understands people’s grief and anger but everyone should remain calm as to overcome the current situation. Together they should look ahead.
President Christofias ended his televised address by saying that the government will continue its efforts regarding all aspects of the state’s administration and that he will wait for the results before talking to the people again.
