"Swap Not Shop" Clothing Exchange

Amid the economic crisis and under the fear of new austerity measures imposed by the government, most Greeks are very reluctant to go shopping, especially for clothes, shoes and accessories. Nevertheless, it seems that this problem has a solution! Greek males and females who still want to be fashionable and keep their personal style but do not want to spend much money on shopping, are now able to exchange clothes, sometimes without having to pay anything.  The “Swap not Shop” movement started out as a funny activity among three girls and has now become a way of life for many Greeks. People can take their old clothes that do not want anymore and exchange them with other members’ clothes.
The “Swap not Shop” idea was launched by Viviana, who moved to London and wanted to get rid of some clothes. “We-about 50 people-gathered in a swap party and exchanged clothes. After, we created a group on Facebook and uploaded our photos,” Viviana stated. ”All those who come bring clean clothes and get clean clothes, while those pieces that are left and nobody wants to shop them are sent to various charity places.”
