Climate Change Impacts Study Committee Releases Report, Athens

A Bank of Greece (BoG) report on the environmental, economic and social repercussions of climate change in Greece, prepared by the Climate Change Impacts Study Committee, was presented in parliament on Thursday.  Climate change is having a negative influence both on our health and the economy.
According to the report, climate change will have a considerable negative impact on many sectors in Greece. Agriculture, forestry, fisheries, tourism, transportation, coastal activities and the built-up environment in urban centres will be affected by the rise of temperature, extreme weather events and a rise in sea levels.
Subsequently, the economy will be affected as the gradual climate change will lead to the loss of capital and additional expenditure for damage repair. Biodiversity and ecosystems in Greece will imbalance soon. Human health will be aggravated.
Member of the Academy of Athens and Coordinator of the Climate Change Impacts Study Committee Christos Zerefos, presented the report to the parliamentary committee, held at the Athens Concert Hall.
