According to recent research carried out by Macedonia University in Thessaloniki, it is no longer possible to find a job abroad for someone who is not specialized in a field and has no basic knowledge of the spoken language of the host country.
Both the chairmen of the Greek Community in Germany and Sweden stated that only educated people can easily find a job, in this period of crisis. According to them, all employees have to be specialized and there is a great demand in the medicine sector. Even doctors have to be specialized before going abroad aspiring to find a job; otherwise it will not be easy for them to work.
Since 1970, there is not a big wave of immigration apart from the students who studied abroad and remained there when they graduated.
The research lasted nine months and there were 2.734 candidates, in 74 countries and 532 towns. Students are not able to find a job corresponding to their demands and qualifications. Comparing the salaries in Greece and abroad, it was confirmed that the income was much lower in Greece. The majority of the people went abroad after graduating without looking for a job in Greece.
The results showed that the market has a small demand of scientists and a great offer of graduators.
According to the research, there are three fields which have great demand abroad: financial economics, management and law.
People living abroad choose to return to their homeland due to one factor: feeling nostalgic. They cannot endure the bad weather conditions. And they also eager to feel the Greek way of living and entertaining again.
It is urgent to change the developing model of the nation in order to improve the economy and keep educated people in Greece.
