Greek International Fair on Education Opens with China as Guest of Honor

China is the Guest of Honor this year at the 13th annual Greek International Fair on Education and Career launched in Athens on Friday.
Thirty-five Chinese universities and the Chinese Scholarship Council were among the over 200 exhibitors from 10 countries at the event, which runs till Sunday, March 13, at the Peace and Friendship Stadium by the seaside.
Organizers estimate that over 20,000 people of all ages will visit the fair, which is the biggest in Greece and also enjoys prestige in Europe. It is held under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Education, the General Secretariat for Youth of the Ministry of Labor, and the cities of Athens and Piraeus.
The main purpose of the event is to offer visitors information on educational programs of public and private universities for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, seminars, and general lifelong learning.
It is the third time for China to take part in this exhibition. Last year the stands of 23 Chinese universities attracted the interest of many young Greeks exploring opportunities to study abroad.
“Chinese higher education has gained worldwide fame, making China one of the most popular destinations for international students. Over 238,000 international students from 190 countries currently study in about 600 Chinese universities,” read the leaflets handed out to visitors by the Chinese exhibitors.
Greeks have a long tradition of seeking education abroad. Approximately one in ten Greeks have studied in foreign universities.
