A Greek in the Integration Committee of SDP

The socialist party formed for the first time an Integration and Migration Committee. In the new Committee, a Greek Stella Kirgiane-Efremidou is also elected.
The Christian democrats of Germany is the party that comes before as it comes to the promotion of the integration of the foreigners in the German society. For example, in 2005, they created a ministry for matters of integration, a council for the integration, under the patronage of chancellor Merkel and “permanent conference for Islam” under the patronage of each minister of Home Affairs.

The social-democrats, in order to gain ground, created the first integration and migration committee.

In the founding conference of the new committee of the social-democratic party, its president Sigmar Gabriel took place. In the presentation of the committee, Mr. Gabriel admitted that his party was late as it comes to this subject. SDP was always the party of the migrants but things have changed. As the Germans, the citizens of foreign origins have different ways of life, social environment and political orientation. So, we should try in order to gain these citizens.

We want a society that offers equal opportunities for all. 9% of the voters and 50% of the babies in the big cities, have at least a foreign parent. That means that the composition of the German society changes. The political parties should occupy with this matter and the policy for the foreigners should be an important part of their political program.

For the Greek social-democrat Stella Kirgiane-Efraimidou that means: “the children that are born by foreign parents, in 20 years will be Germans. But we should integrate them in the society by now. This is the only way to combat the xenophobia. We want a society with equal opportunities for all”.

The 43 years old Stella Kirgiane-Efraimidis grew up in Germany. At a young age, she became member of the Social-democrats party. Today, she is the party’s president in the city of Weinheim, town councilor and member of the presidency Of SDP in Baden-Württemberg.

The second goal of this committee, as Stella Kirgiane Efraimidou says, is “to prove that we deserve more”.
