George Kapiniaris: Hear his greatest hits

georgecp9FULL of praise for Adelaide, Greek comedian George Kapiniaris gushes about the Fringe being the “best comedy festival in Australia, if not the world’’.
“It kicks a**,’’ he says.
“I’m very comfortable in Adelaide. It’s my second city, moreso than Sydney (where his wife is from).
“Adelaide is very special to me.’’
Speaking from his home in Melbourne, Kapiniaris was playing doting dad keeping a watchful eye over his 15-month-old son Peter John (PJ), who was snoozing.
“He parties all night and sleeps all day.’’
PJ was the inspiration behind Kapiniaris’ Fringe show last year, Rockstar.
This festival he will showcase the best bits of his 25 year career in stand-up “It’s a self-indulgent show.’’
Recognised from appearing in the RAA ads for eight years, Kapiniaris says he wants to “hit the audience with well-rehearsed material’’.
“There will also be Georgisms and some things from the RAA ad but don’t expect that as you’ll be a bit shocked.
“There’s different routines, different songs, the pick of the bunch, growing up as a Greek in this country, stuff about kids, stuff about relationships.’’
Pre-show warm-up for Kapiniaris consists of shaking his hands three times, squatting and doing the sign of the cross.
“It gets me in the zone,’’ he laughs.
“My recent ritual is to find a café latte or plan B is have a Red Bull and a glass of water which acts as a surrogate for my lattes.’’

George Kapiniaris’ Greatest Hits at The Cavern Club, Station Arcade, from March 9 to 14. Bookings: 1300 374 643.
