Turkey has established a new base for its 51st Commando Brigade in Söke, in Aydın province, on the Turkish coast opposite the Greek island of Samos.
The brigade’s presence in the area became public in late August, when Brigadier General Yaşar Karaoğlu took command in Söke. The unit has since appeared at official events in the town.
The location has drawn attention because of its position across Samos. There is no official Turkish statement, however, linking the move to a specific Greek action.

Karaoğlu took up his new post in Söke on August 28. He later visited Söke District Governor Ali Akça, with local reports identifying the 51st Commando Brigade as a new military formation in the area.
The available public reports do not provide a single, consistent account of the brigade’s previous station. For that reason, the exact route of the unit’s relocation is not clear from publicly available official information.
