Greece has delivered a second shipment of military equipment to the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), continuing its support for the Lebanon army’s operational capabilities and security.
The delivery took place on on Saturday at the Port of Beirut. The shipment consisted of 13 M113 armored personnel carriers and 10 general-purpose military vehicles, described as fully operational and equipped, along with an ample quantity of spare parts.
Head of Greek Consul Ignatios Papadimitriou, Greek Embassy officials, and Greek Armed Forces Colonel Colonel Nikolaos Salpingidis – the Greek military attaché – attended the ceremony with Lebanese army officers.
The new shipment follows the first that was delivered on January 16, which also included 13 M113 APCs and 10 Steyr 680M 2.5-ton general-purpose vehicles plus spare parts, transported by a Hellenic Navy vessel.
‘Greece continues its support’
The Greek Embassy in Lebanon said in a statement: “Greece continues its tangible support to the LAF. Greece stands steadfastly by Lebanon and the LAF, supporting their army capabilities and Lebanon’s sovereignty, security and stability.”
The Lebanese Army Command said the donation aims to strengthen the military’s operational capacity amid the challenges facing the country and reflects longstanding cooperation between the two armed forces.
Greece has framed the aid to Lebanon as part of its defense diplomacy in the Eastern Mediterranean, following high-level contacts including visits by Defense Minister Nikos Dendias and meetings with his Lebanese counterpart. The vehicles come from Hellenic Army surplus stocks after they received maintenance in Greece.
The deliveries occur as the LAF continues efforts to maintain security and extend state authority, including in southern Lebanon. International partners have provided various forms of equipment and training support to the Lebanese army in recent years.
Lebanon thanks Greece for the aid
According to IMLebanon news webpage report, the Lebanese army received the second batch of the Greek army aid, which includes 13 M113 type personnel carriers and 10 trucks, in the presence of the head of the consular section of the Greek Embassy in Lebanon, Ignatios Papadimtriou, and the Greek military attaché, Colonel Nikolaos Salpingidis, along with a number of Greek army officers.
The army had received the first installment from Greece on January 16, 2026.
“The gift comes as part of the support of the Greek authorities to the military establishment and the strengthening of its operational capabilities in light of the challenges facing Lebanon, as it reflects the strength of the cooperation between the two countries,” the report reads.
