Undefeated boxing icon Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. has expressed massive excitement over his upcoming exhibition bout against Greek combat sports legend Mike “Iron” Zambidis, scheduled for June 27, 2026, at the Telekom Center of the OAKA Olympic Complex.
The matchup, titled “Battle of the Legends,” marks a rare European appearance for the 50-0 boxing Hall of Famer. It brings him to the historic birthplace of the Olympic Games to face a national sporting hero who holds eighteen world titles across kickboxing and boxing.
In an exclusive interview with the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), Mayweather emphasized his respect for the host nation and the global weight of the event. “I want to thank the people of Greece for welcoming me with open arms. To compete in Athens, a city with such a deep connection to the history of sports, is an honor,” Mayweather stated.
“Mike Zambidis is a true warrior and a legend in his own right. I know what he brings to the table,” he said, “and I know how much this fight means to his fans here. I’m not taking this lightly. We’re going to give the fans in Athens and millions watching worldwide a spectacular show.”
The eight-round exhibition will headline a mega-crossover fight card streamed globally on DAZN. It represents a fascinating stylistic collision: Mayweather, renowned as arguably the greatest defensive specialist in boxing history, against Zambidis, a relentless pressure fighter famously known for knocking out much taller opponents with concussive hooks during his storied K-1 career.
Zambidis is a monumental icon
Standing at just 5 feet 5 inches tall, the Athens native built a legendary career by defying physics—consistently stalking and flattening much taller, heavier opponents with his low center of gravity and concussive overhand rights and left hooks.
Over a storied two-decade career, Zambidis captured a staggering eighteen world championship titles across various global promotions and became a viral sensation during Japan’s historic K-1 World MAX era.
He retired with a jaw-dropping record of 157 wins and 24 losses, with 87 of those victories coming by way of knockout. Notably, before cementing his status as a kickboxing deity, Zambidis was a standout amateur boxer, representing Greece on the national team and participating in the pre-Olympic squad for the 2000 Sydney Games.
