A mysterious Father’s Day weekend post by Donald Trump on Truth Social has sparked widespread confusion, after he shared a vintage photograph of an unnamed blonde woman with the caption, “Great daughter, My Honor!!! President DJT.”
The woman has since been identified as Margo Catsimatidis, a prominent figure in New York business and philanthropic circles, whose high-profile family has deeply rooted ties to both the city’s political landscape and the Trump camp.
Margo Catsimatidis: From ballerina to business executive
Long before finding herself at the center of a viral social media mix-up, Margo Catsimatidis (née Vondersaar) built a diverse career in New York City. Moving from Indiana to Manhattan in 1971 to pursue dance, she was a trained ballerina who famously became the youngest person ever invited to dance with the Bolshoi Ballet at age 12.
Following a career-altering injury, she transitioned into business, starting out as a secretary at Red Apple Supermarkets in 1973. By 1984, she founded her own successful print advertising agency, MCV Advertising Associates. Alongside her business ventures, Margo leads numerous civic and charitable foundations—such as co-publishing the Hellenic Times newspaper and serving on the boards of organizations like the Alzheimer’s Association and the Police Athletic League. In 2000, she was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor for her heritage preservation work.
The husband: A self-made Greek-American billionaire
Margo’s husband, John Catsimatidis, is a well-known Greek-American billionaire businessman. Born on the Greek island of Nisyros in 1948, his family immigrated to West Harlem when he was just six months old. A true self-made success story, John grew up in humble circumstances—his father worked as a New York busboy—and he eventually dropped out of New York University just eight credits short of an electrical engineering degree to pursue the grocery industry full-time.
That gamble paid off. John grew his initial investments into the Red Apple Group, a massive, multi-billion-dollar conglomerate with major holdings in real estate, aviation, energy, and Manhattan grocery chains like Gristedes and D’Agostino Supermarkets.
The Catsimatidis family is legendary for its political involvement; they have hosted U.S. presidents and governors of both parties at their home, and John remains a major political donor, having contributed $515,000 to Trump’s 2020 campaign alone.
The daughter: A rising GOP leader
The couple’s daughter, Andrea Catsimatidis, has followed her family’s footsteps directly into the political arena. A graduate of NYU’s Stern School of Business, the 36-year-old serves as an executive for her father’s companies within the Red Apple Group while simultaneously building her own political capital.
Since 2017, Andrea has served as the chairwoman of the Manhattan Republican Party, a position that has established her as a prominent conservative voice in New York. A staunch and vocal supporter of Donald Trump, her political ties also run deep through her past marriage to Christopher Nixon Cox—the grandson of former U.S. President Richard Nixon—from 2011 to 2014.
Why the post caused such a stir
The confusion stemmed from the fact that Trump‘s post referred to Margo as a “Great daughter.” Andrea seemingly confirmed the photo was of her mother by posting a public thank-you to Trump for inviting her to his 80th birthday celebration at a UFC event, though she bypassed addressing the strange wording entirely.
Internet sleuths quickly noted that the photograph of Margo was actually taken years ago at Camp David during the Clinton administration—noticeable by the Arkansas state seal on the couch she was sitting on—a retreat where the Catsimatidis family was historically instrumental in helping fund and build the presidential chapel.
While the White House has previously brushed off questions about Trump’s mental fitness by highlighting his sharpness and energy, the bizarre mix-up has given political critics and Democrats fresh leverage to question his cognitive health.
