Olympiacos Advances to EuroLeague Final After Dominant Win Over Fenerbahce

Olympiacos overpowered Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul 79-61 on Friday in Athens to reach the EuroLeague Final Four Championship Game, making it their second final appearance in four years.

Sunday’s EuroLeague final will see Olympiacos return to the floor in Athens, with Fenerbahce eliminated following the 18-point defeat. The Reds will face the winner of the Valencia Basket versus Real Madrid semifinal, which was also played on Friday. Tipoff for the Championship Game is set for 21:00 local time Sunday.

Alec Peters paced Olympiacos with 17 points on a perfect seven-of-seven from the field. Sasha Vezenkov added 16, with 14 of those coming in the third quarter. Tyler Dorsey scored 15, while Tyson Ward and Evan Fournier each contributed 10.

For Fenerbahce, Tarik Biberovic finished with 17 points and four three-pointers. Talen Horton-Tucker scored 16 to go with six rebounds, and Wade Baldwin added 10.

Olympiacos silences Fenerbahce early in Athens Euroleague semifinal

Only one field goal was scored in the first four minutes as both teams struggled to settle. Dorsey then hit back-to-back three-pointers, and Vezenkov added a basket, putting Olympiacos up 12-0.

Fenerbahce converted their first field goal with three minutes left in the quarter and pulled back to 18-12 by the end of the first period.

Peters sparked another burst early in the second quarter as the home side pushed its lead to 16 points. Fenerbahce toughened their defense, limiting Olympiacos to one field goal in the final five minutes of the half and cutting the deficit to 33-24 at the break.

Vezenkov and Dorsey combined to open the third quarter with an 11-0 run. Fenerbahce replied with 10 straight, with Horton-Tucker scoring to bring them within 48-39. Olympiacos steadied and carried a 56-41 lead into the fourth.

Ward halts Fenerbahce fightback to seal commanding victory

Biberovic opened the final quarter with five straight points to trim the gap to 56-49. Ward responded with five of his own, stopping Fenerbahce’s push and extending the lead to 71-55. Olympiacos held firm to finish 79-61.

The crowd at Telekom Sports Centre (OAKA Basketball Arena) was loud throughout and played a part in the early 12-0 run that gave the hosts control from the outset.
