Greece is set to make a strong showing at the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, with filmmakers, producers, and industry representatives participating across several sections of the festival and its parallel market events.
The festival opened on Tuesday night on the French Riviera with the world premiere of La Venus Electrique by French director Pierre Salvadori. Over the next 11 days, Cannes will host official competition screenings, premieres, and industry meetings attended by filmmakers and executives from around the world.
This year’s competition jury is led by South Korean director Park Chan-wook, known for films including Oldboy and Decision to Leave. Jury members also include filmmaker Chloé Zhao and Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård.
Greek films enter parallel sections
Greek productions will appear in several parallel sections of the festival. Director Konstantina Kotzamani will present Titanic Ocean in Un Certain Regard, while filmmaker Alexandra Matheou will debut Free Eliza (notes on an anatomical imperfection) in the Directors’ Fortnight program.
Greek producers join Marché du Film
Greek participation also extends to the Marché du Film, the industry market held alongside the festival.

The Thessaloniki International Film Festival and EKKOMED (Hellenic Film and Audiovisual Center) are supporting five producers selected for the Producers Network, a professional platform connecting filmmakers, distributors, and financiers.
The projects include A Girl Named Zeus, Pirateland, Who Killed the Pigeons, Black Money for White Nights, and The Tide Hears Them But They No Longer Have a Voice.
The selected producers previously introduced the projects during the 66th edition of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival and will present them again during a May 16 showcase event in Cannes.
Industry events highlight Greece’s film sector
Director Argyris Papadimitropoulos is also attending the Marché with the project Oh, How Fun!, featuring actors Charlotte Gainsbourg, Edgar Ramirez, Angeliki Papoulia, and Makis Papadimitriou.
The week will conclude with events at the Greek pavilion, including a reception for film industry professionals and a panel discussion organized by the Thessaloniki festival, EKKOMED, and Variety focused on production and filming opportunities in Greece.
