President Trump spoke in notably warm terms about Greece during a press briefing at the White House on Thursday, prompted by a recent interview given by the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the American outlet Breitbart.

The US President described Greece as “fantastic,” emphasizing that the country has provided meaningful support across a wide range of areas and demonstrated a clear understanding of the gravity of current circumstances. Referring personally to the Greek Prime Minister, Trump used particularly favorable language, calling him a “terrific guy.”

In his Breitbart interview, Mitsotakis had underscored the urgent need for common ground between the United States and Iran. According to the Prime Minister, such an agreement is essential to bringing an end to hostilities in the Middle East and restoring balance to global energy markets.

Greece’s Mitsotakis also expressed optimism that Trump will ultimately reach a compromise with Tehran—one that would, among other things, ensure the continued openness of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

In the same context, he alluded to a potential future visit by Trump to Greece, remarking with emphasis that the American leader “will have a great time” during his stay.
