President Donald Trump told Americans on Wednesday night that he expects the war with Iran to last another two to three weeks but deemed it to be close to the end.
Trump, in a televised address from the White House, touted the successes of the US campaign, dubbed Operation Epic Fury, and repeated once again that the war won’t last much longer.
“We are going to finish the job, and we’re going to finish it very fast,” he said. “Our enemies are losing, and America, as it has been for five years under my presidency, is winning, and now winning bigger than ever before.”
In his address, Trump called on allies to “build up the courage” to secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, arguing the US doesn’t need it. The American President suggested the US could wrap up its military operations soon. However, in the meantime, he threatened overwhelming destruction.
Trump threatened to hit Iran very hard
“We will hit them extremely hard over the next two to three weeks,” he said. “We will bring them back to the Stone Ages where they belong.”
Despite claiming Iran had been militarily “crushed,” Trump continued to press for a deal with the United States without outlining any terms. He again warned that if Tehran refused, the US would bomb the country’s power plants.
The BBC notes that one glaring omission from President Trump’s speech was NATO, and this was made all the more obvious after he reportedly told the Telegraph he was considering pulling the US out of the alliance late on Wednesday evening.
The President told the paper that the alliance is a “paper tiger” and when asked if he would reconsider the US’s membership of the alliance after the conflict in the Middle East, said: “Oh yes, I would say [it’s] beyond reconsideration.”
