Passenger traffic at Athens International Airport continued to build momentum through the end of 2025, reflecting sustained growth in travel demand.
In December alone, the airport handled 2.31 million travelers, marking an 8.4% increase compared with the same month in 2024. The growth was driven by gains in both domestic and international travel, with domestic traffic up 5.5% and international arrivals and departures rising by 9.6%.
Athens International Airport’s annual passenger traffic reaches 34 million
Across the entire year, the airport handled approximately 34 million passengers, representing a 6.7% increase compared with 2024. Domestic travel surged by 2.2%, while international traffic increased by 8.6%.
These results highlight the airport’s expanding role as a key aviation hub for Southeastern Europe, supported by increased airline capacity and sustained traveler demand.
Flight activity also on the rise
Aircraft operations followed the same upward trend as passenger volumes. A total of 283,589 flights were handled in 2025, representing a 5.7% year-on-year increase.
Domestic flights edged up by 1.3%, while international operations recorded a strong 8.7% rise compared with 2024—underscoring airlines’ continued confidence in the Athens market.
A positive outlook for 2026
With steady growth across both the domestic and international sectors, Athens International Airport is starting off 2026 on strong operational footing.
The airport is well positioned to benefit from future demand, as the ongoing recovery of global travel and its strategic connectivity attract both leisure and business travelers.
