Greece’s Athens International Airport reached an all-time high in passenger traffic in August 2025, handling 3.88 million travelers.
This marks a 6.7% increase compared to August 2024, highlighting the airport’s consistent growth trajectory.
Both domestic and international segments contributed, with domestic traffic rising by 2.5% and international traffic jumping by 8.4% year over year.
Strong growth across the first eight months
From January to August 2025, the airport welcomed 22.71 million passengers, up 6.8% compared to the same period in 2024.
International arrivals played a key role, expanding by 8.8%, while domestic passenger traffic showed a 2.1% increase.
These results confirm Athens International Airport’s position as one of the fastest-growing aviation hubs in Southern Europe.
Rising flight numbers reflect demand
Flight activity also mirrored this upward trend. During the first eight months of 2025, Athens International Airport recorded 191,165 flights, a 5.9% increase compared to the previous year.
Domestic flights grew modestly by 1.3%, while international flights surged by 9.1%, underlining Athens’ growing importance as a gateway for global travelers.

The record-breaking figures reinforce Greece’s International Airport as a central hub for tourism, business, and connectivity in the wider region.
Industry analysts note that sustained growth in international traffic reflects both expanded airline offerings and Greece’s ongoing popularity among European and overseas markets.
