Tom Hanks is once again vacationing in Greece, the country he’s called a second home for years. The beloved actor, who acquired Greek citizenship five years ago, is currently enjoying a trip to the Cyclades with his wife, Rita Wilson. The couple, who celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary earlier this year, recently made a stop on Naxos.
While on the island, Hanks and Wilson dined at a traditional tavern in the village of Apeiranthos. At the end of the night, the Hollywood star headed to the kitchen to personally thank the staff for their hospitality and the delicious local food.
The restaurant team, thrilled by his visit, snapped a commemorative photo with Hanks, which they later shared on their Facebook page with the caption: “The entire ‘Lefteris’ team had a unique meeting with the unique Tom Hanks today! Thank you for the smile and energy!”
Greece offers citizenship to Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson
The Greek government granted Hanks and Wilson citizenship in 2019, citing their “exceptional services to Greece.” The pair brought massive media attention and resources to help with the devastating wildfires of July 2018. The most tragic fire killed 104 people in the seaside town of Mati, northeast of Athens.
Wilson is Greek-American, and Hanks is an active part of the Greek Orthodox Church to which he has converted. Hanks often speaks about his love for Greece and the Greek people, as he considers himself a true Hellenophile.
