The first direct flight between Los Angeles and Athens, Greece is set to launch this summer, directly connecting Greece and California.

The new service by Norse Atlantic will commence on June 3, 2025, linking two iconic cities with nonstop flights for the first time in aviation history.

Norse Atlantic’s new route will operate four times a week, using the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet they operate for their transatlantic flights. The planes will depart Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Athens International Airport (ATH) on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, offering travelers four days from which to choose weekly.

The service is expected to attract many travelers from both destinations for both leisure and business trips.

Promotional one-way fares start at $269 or 239 Euros making the journey not only direct but also much more affordable compared to existing options with layovers.

The 6,928-mile flight is scheduled to last for approximately thirteen and a half hours westbound and twelve hours and forty minutes eastbound, making it the longest route in Norse Atlantic’s network right now.

The new direct flight between Los Angeles and Athens a positive step

The launch of this service is expected to address a significant gap in the market, as the demand from Americans to visit Greece and vice-versa is rising significantly. In 2024, Los Angeles was Athens’ largest unserved US route, with more than 100,000 round-trip passengers traveling between the two cities via connections in Europe such as Frankfurt, Paris, and London, or the Middle East. Previously, no airline had offered a nonstop option, forcing travelers to endure layovers and extended travel times.

Norse Atlantic’s CEO and founder, Bjorn Tore Larsen, recently expressed his enthusiasm about the new route.

The introduction of a direct route from Los Angeles to Athens will address a current gap in available services. This affordable option is expected to be well-received, providing customers with increased transatlantic travel opportunities and the exciting prospect for Americans to explore the historical wonders of Athens.

The new service is expected to boost tourism and business ties between Southern California and Greece, while also providing convenient connections to Greek islands and neighboring southeastern European countries through Athens’ extensive regional network.

As of summer 2025, there will be an impressive number of weekly connections, specifically 103, between Greece and the US. This is a significant expansion from previous years, driven by rising demand from American tourists to visit Europe and more specifically Greece.

These direct connections will primarily link Athens International Airport with nine major US cities, including New York City (JFK), Newark (EWR), Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Washington, DC (IAD), Philadelphia (PHL), Atlanta (ATL), Los Angeles (LAX), and Charlotte (CLT).
