Top Greek Olive Oil Brand to be used in Yale’s Brain Health Research

A multi-awarded Greek olive oil will be soon used in a highly specific scientific research for the health benefits of extra virgin olive oils.

So far, Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms has won 833 international awards in international competitions – a global record of distinctions for a Greek Single Estate and Terroir organic olive producer.

One of its labels will be the product used exclusively in a joint research by the U.S. Universities of Auburn, Temple, and Yale, investigating the health benefits of extra virgin olive oils to the human brain.

The oleocanthal-rich Plus Health Green Evoo Greek olive oil, produced by Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms, will help scientists map the effects of highly phenolic olive oil on genomic and metabolic changes in healthy individuals with a family history of Alzheimer’s disease.

The project, titled EVOO for Brain Health, will start with a clinical trial at the University of Auburn, during which volunteers will add this specific oleocanthal-rich Greek olive oil to their everyday diet. The effects of this dietary addition will be then evaluated over time as to whether it helped protect the trial participants from developing Alzheimer’s.

“Scientific research and collaborations have been at the core of our company since the beginning”, producer Sakellaropoulos commented.

Lond-standing clinical studies and research projects are already being carried out with Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms’ organic olive oils and table olives at the Schools of Public Health of the Universities of Harvard and Yale University, as well as at the School of Pharmaceutics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Greece is the top country producer of gourmet olive oils in 2023

Recently, Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms once again won top international awards and acclaims for its flavor and quality.

Among other distinctions, Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms emerged as winners and top olive producer of gourmet olive oils worldwide, earning 5,602 points on the Extra Virgin Olive Oils (EVOO) ranking.

The brand’s win contributed forty-three percent to Greece’s total points, bringing the country to the to the top spot as the number one country producer of gourmet olive oils at a global level in the World Ranking of Countries of Flavored Oils 2023 category, with 13,058 points.

In addition, Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms saw eight of its gourmet olive oils make it into the top flavored oils of the Year 2023 worldwide and were also honored with a rare achievement, winning 7 out of 10 places worldwide (2nd to 8th), in the Top 10 Flavored Oils of the World 2023.

This year, EVOOWR examined 21,213 samples of olive oil, from 37 olive-producing countries and over 2000 companies, which had already been distinguished in 35 prestigious international competitions.
