A severed human head was discovered in Chania on the Greek island of Crete in an area not far from a holiday resort.

The decapitated head was found by three shocked workers at a waste recycling facility in a plastic bag.

Later at the DEDISA recycling plant, workers came across a separate bag containing a pair of legs.

Severed head and body parts discovered on Crete

The waste containing these disturbing finds had arrived at the facility via truck from Rethymno, as reported by zarpanews.gr.

Authorities have closed off an area of the facility to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. They are also actively searching for the remaining body parts.

Following the discovery, a medical examiner concluded that the man had been deceased for at least ten days, adding to the mystery surrounding the gruesome events.

Official comments

“I was informed by the shift supervisor that a human dismembered corpse was found on the material sorting line” DEDISA general manager Kostas Paterakis said.

“The production process was immediately stopped and the Police Directorate of Chania was duly informed,” he continued.

“There were three workers on the sorting line who brought the human limbs. They all were in a state of shock. Like all of us.

“From our side, we will assist the families of the employees,” Paterakis confirmed.

Murder on the Greek islands

The discovery of a severed head and limbs discarded in plastic bags is not the first of their kind on the Greek islands in recent months.

On June 12, 27-year-old Anastazja Rubinska from Poland went missing on the Greek island of Kos. On Sunday, June 18, her dead body was discovered by a volunteer who had joined the intensive search for the missing woman.

The chief suspect in the murder of Anastazja Rubinska is a 32-year-old Bangladeshi man who was arrested on suspicion of abduction the day before the victim’s body was found.

Rubinska’s body was reportedly found naked and wrapped in a bedsheet under a tree and covered with leaves and branches.

The location where the body was found was about one kilometer from the house of the 32-year-old Bangladeshi man arrested the previous day on suspicion of abduction. Rubinska’s mobile phone was also found half a kilometer away from the suspect’s house, its SIM card removed.

Greek media reported at the time that her DNA was found in the suspect’s house and that police investigators noticed scratches and signs of struggle on him, which, he claims, originated from a road traffic accident he had recently.
