The resort of Vouliagmeni, south of Athens, Greece aspires to become a superyacht hub as a state-of-the-art marina is being built to attract the world’s rich and famous.

Located 21 km south of Athens and the port of Piraeus, Astir Marina is perfectly situated adjacent to the Astir Hotel Complex, owned by Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, on a 16,3-hectare pine tree area.

Astir Marina, situated in one of the most beautiful parts of the Athenian Riviera, hopes to become the “jewel in the crown” of superyacht mooring after its renovation and expansion.

In late May the first yacht named “Silly” sailed and moored at the marina. Penny Zaglaridou, president and CEO of Astir Marina, commented: “We are proud and happy with the arrival of the first boat at Astir Marina. It was a very important moment, as a great project is being completed and is gradually becoming a reality.

“We are working tirelessly and look forward to seeing the marina in full operation, full of boats and people enjoying the unrivaled experiences we have designed for our guests.”

Vouliagmeni Marina to make Athens a superyacht hub

The 59 berths of the marina are leased for 30 years for astronomical prices. As a report in Proto Thema reveals, for a 30-meter long vessel the cost is 2 million euros for 30 years, while for a 46-50 meter long vessel the cost amounts to 4.5 million euros.

Out of the total of 59 vessels the marina could host, 46 will be under 40 meters long, five will be up to 45 meters, another five up to 50 meters, two up to 60 meters, while the marina will also have the possibility of berthing a vessel over 70 meters long.

Research by one of the world’s largest auditing companies, the Big Four, states that after its reformation, the Vouliagmeni marina will star in the top 3 marinas in the Southeast Mediterranean.

As the administration has pointed out, the goal of Astir Hotel, which owns the management of the marina, is to “become one of the leading infrastructures for mooring boats, entertainment and shopping in the Mediterranean”.

The marina will also feature shops which bring together top luxury brands, expected to be operational in the next tourist season, probably between March – April 2024.

Among the top luxury names that will join the land zone are Loro Piana, Bottega Veneta, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, probably Saint Laurent, as well as ‘Caffè Cova’, also of the Louis Vuitton group. This is the historic and oldest cafe, founded in Milan in 1817, with branches in Monaco and Paris.
