Six more bases run by Chinese spies have been discovered by US authorities following the discovery of a secret “police station” in New York City that was shut down with the help of the FBI, as reported by the New York Post.

The two individuals arrested in connection with the “Chinese police station” were Lu Jianwang, 61, and Chen Jinping, 59, both of whom are New York residents. They have been charged with conspiracy to act as agents of the Chinese government, and obstruction of justice.

A spokeswoman for the organization Safeguard Defenders said that there are several other similar illegal organizations operating throughout the United States.

In fact, at least four of these organizations have been listed by China’s public security authorities, while an additional four Chinese service centers set up by the UFWD networks are responsible for staffing the stations, according to the spokeswoman.

100 secret Chinese police stations worldwide

A new report by Safeguard Defenders has uncovered several Chinese police stations operating in the United States. One of the stations is located above a noodle restaurant in Manhattan’s Chinatown, while another is located in an undisclosed location in New York City. There is also a station in Los Angeles and several others in San Francisco, Houston, Nebraska, and Minnesota.

Last year, the Madrid-based human rights group released a report that detailed 100 covert Chinese police stations around the world. These organizations are run by the Chinese Communist Party and are responsible for monitoring Chinese citizens living abroad, reported the New York Post.

Despite evidence to the contrary, Beijing has denied running these stations and instead characterized them as “service centers” for Chinese nationals living abroad.

The UFWD, a branch of the Chinese government, is responsible for controlling the religious and ethnic affairs of Chinese people living overseas.

Reports from Safeguard Defenders suggest that some police stations, whose members are accused of spying on individuals who oppose the government, use nonprofits and community groups as cover.

China uses ‘Chinatowns’ for covert activities

The Chinese government has been using “Chinatowns” in various cities around the world to carry out secretive operations.

Recently, the New York Post revealed that the police station in Chinatown was actually managed by the America ChangLe Association NY Inc, which owns the building where the operation was located.

The non-profit organization’s mission is to serve as a “social gathering place for Fujianese people,” but it paid a whopping $1.3 million in 2016 to lease office space at the East Broadway location that houses the Fuzhou Police Overseas Chinese Affairs Bureau, according to the findings.
