Boris Klaiman, a goalkeeper for the Greek Super League club Volos F.C., was arrested on Tuesday after a 17 year-old girl claimed he tried to rape her and for the possession of narcotics.

Klaiman was arrested at approximately 2:00 am in a nightclub in Athens. The news of his arrest was accompanied by an announcement on Tuesday by Volos F.C. that Klaiman, and another goalie, Rodrigo Escoval, would no longer be playing for the team.

It has been reported that the underage girl who accused Klaiman of assault was visiting Athens during a school trip from Belgium.

Boris Klaiman arrested in Athens

Klaiman was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning at a bar in Kolonaki, Central Athens.

Klaiman was reportedly accompanied by his Volos teammate and fellow goalie Rodrigo Escoval when the incident took place.

According to Greek media reports, Klaiman, a 33-year-old Israeli of Ukrainian origin, approached an underage Belgian girl at the bar. When he noticed that she was intoxicated by alcohol, he propositioned her.

When the minor rejected his advances, Klaiman is said to have physically overpowered her and begun to physically abuse her.

When the victim’s classmates saw what was happening, they sprung up and attacked Klaiman to defend their friend. Shocked onlookers watched as the Belgians punched Klaiman inside the bar.

The police were made aware of the incident and arrested Klaiman. He was taken to Syntagma police station where the underage victim identified him.

There are also reports that six people in total were arrested, including Klaiman himself, another footballer, and four Belgians.

About 1.5 grams of heroin were found in an improvised package in Klaiman’s possession. Police also apparently found a 15cm long folding knife in the possession of one of the Belgians, but he was later released.

Volos F.C.

On Tuesday, Volos F.C. released a statement announcing that Boris Klaiman and Rodrigo Escoval would be dropped from the team.

“By decision of the president of PAE Volos, Mr. Achilleas Beos, Boris Kleiman and Rodrigo Escoval have been left out of the team and the process to terminate their contracts has begun. Their managers have already been informed,” the statement said.

No reason was given for the termination, but it is a near certainty that it was due to Klaiman’s arrest.

Escoval’s involvement in the incident is unclear, although some reports have said that he was arrested, only to be released a while later.

Klaiman signed a two-year contract to play with Volos in August 2020. He previously played for clubs in Israel, as well as for the Israeli national team.

The minor from Belgium has reportedly filed a legal case against Klaiman.
