Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers have joined a set of minority investors who have acquired partial ownership of the US soccer club Nashville SC.

The NBA champion is joined in the group by his brothers – Thanasis, Kostas and Alex Antetokounmpo – as well as the NHL’s Filip Forsberg, adding to the Tennessee club’s star-studded roster.

Thanasis Antetokounmpo said that the brothers are “very excited” to invest in the American soccer team. He said their dad played soccer, but he could not achieve his dreams. “I wish he was here to see us”, Thanasis said.

Though Antetokounmpo made a name for himself on the basketball court, his connection to soccer started at a young age, his father having played professionally in Nigeria and Germany. It was the first sport Antetokounmpo fell in love with in Greece.

Nashville Soccer Club is a Major League Soccer club based in Nashville, Tennessee. The team began to play in the league in 2020 as a continuation of the USL club of the same name, and plays its home matches at Geodis Park.

It is principally owned by John Ingram, owner of Ingram Industries, along with investors and partial owners the Turner family of Dollar General Stores.

Nashville SC’s inaugural MLS match was on February 29, 2020, with the club hosting Atlanta United FC at Nissan Stadium. The game was played in front of 59,069 spectators, becoming the highest-attended soccer event in Tennessee.

There is no denying that Antetokounmpo is a global superstar, and his affiliation with the relatively new team will help increase its popularity and dominance both within the United States and abroad.
