In spite of Afghanistan’s recent notoriety due to restrictions on women by the Taliban, a domestic supercar called Mada 9 was developed in the country. The vehicle is putting the nation on the map for different reasons this time.

The sports car has been dubbed “the country’s equivalent to the Bugatti” on social media.

A new video depicts the Mada 9 being put to the test in Afghanistan. The video makes evident the car’s superior traction on snowy roads, indicating it is powered with all-wheel drive.

The man behind Mada 9

The CEO of the company, Muhammad Raza Ahmadi, claims that the Mada 9 has been under development for five years at the Nauvari Center of Technical and Vocational Education of Afghanistan with funding and assistance from the Afghan IT Ministry and the Innovation Center of Afghanistan. The prototype’s tubular frame chassis and F1-inspired pushrod suspension keep weight down.

The Mada 9’s manufacturing schedule is still unclear, but the team behind the project hopes to unveil the finished product at an upcoming expo in Qatar.

The Mada 9 is a daring effort with the potential to be a defining moment for the car industry in war-torn Afghanistan.

In a video posted on ENTOP’s Facebook page, Muhammad Reza Ahmadi announced that the car model that he has been working on for the past five years would finally be finished in the next two weeks.

To build this car, Ahmadi used an engine from a Toyota Corolla, which will need to be upgraded before it can be used in a race. Ahmadi is hopeful that his invention will be featured at the 2023 Doha Expo in Qatar.

Afghan Technical Vocational Education and Innovation Center Director Mawlavi Ghulam Haidar Shahamat stated the world was shocked to learn the car was made in Afghanistan after images of it went viral online.

There is hope for Mada 9 to become the country’s first locally manufactured sports car.

Toyota Corolla is Afghans’ favorite car

Although consumer culture is still in its infancy in Afghanistan, when it comes to automobiles, there is one model that stands out from the crowd: the tried-and-true Toyota Corolla. It is inexpensive, durable, and dependable.

In a nation where even paved roads in the richest districts of the capital are full of potholes, the durable Japanese-made automobile is the vehicle of choice for almost everyone. The exception to this is people who are extremely wealthy.

The chief of the traffic police in Kabul, General Asadullah Khan, states that eighty percent of the seven hundred thousand automobiles that navigate the crowded streets of Kabul are Toyota Corollas. On average, between five to six hundred new or used vehicles are registered every single day in the country.

“The Corolla is the car of the people,” he said. “It doesn’t use too much gas.”
